CoP 3 Publications packaging

Packaging

For the packaging i wanted to create something that was simple and also reusable using the designing backwards theory i was able to come up with an idea that could package the publications but then be rescued.

Designing backwards stages and how i have applied it to the packaging

  1. Waste, i have considered how this will be reused, the packaging can be reversed and not thrown straight into the bin
  2. User, through education this design comes in the form of the publications
  3. Delivery, I have taken this into account by thinking the ways it can be delivered, the packaging can have a stamp put on it then posted or hand delivered easily, fitting through a letter box perfectly.
  4. Warehouse, the packaging will be a simple net that can be arranged to get dye cut to reduce waste
  5. Bindery, the binding of the packaging will be mechanical so that no glues are involved  making it easier to recycle at the end of the product, it can also just be folded into the packaging as well so no extra packaging is needed.
  6. Printing, the paper has been locally sourced from a shop, it is 100% recycled paper, i would then if i could have afforded printed it using vegetable inks

My initial nets for the packaging

the packaging didn't quite fold round the publications properly because this line wasn't thick enough, so i increased the width of this.

My first idea to bind it with the clip was to have holes using a hole punch but getting the holes in the correct places was very hard because the holes had to be done blind.

So instead of holes a created small dots on the packaging that would be printed off and i used a knife to create a small line that the clip would be put through. Shown below.

After printing the packaging i then cut it out.

using a ruler to make sure the fold was sharp
